Shave For The Brave

Story

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page!

For those of you that don’t know us we are 3 friends, Cara, Alanna & Mia, who have known each other for over 20 years - going all the way back to our primary school days. Like all close friends, we have been by each other’s side through the many highs and lows that life has thrown at us.

It is a scary statistic that 1 in 8 of us will be diagnosed with breast cancer, quite a confronting figure if you think of all the ladies in your life. In saying that, it should come at no surprise that the ripple effect of this disease has reached so many. However we were shocked at the number of people we knew, who’s lives had been touched by breast cancer in some way or another!

Last year, when Cara’s mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, we decided it was time for us to help out in some way. We put our heads together to think of a way that we could maximise the amount of money we raise for this fantastic cause and the answer was quite literally staring us in the face : ) We all have beautiful long hair so why not raise some money to shave it off.

It would be such a shame for our beautiful locks to go to waste so we will also be donating our ponytails to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a charity organization who support women with cancer by providing free real-hair wigs to women who have lost their locks through treatment.

We have decided to build towards the shave as the amount we raise climbs, so the more money you donate the shorter we go. Our ultimate goal for our group is to raise $15,000 for the McGrath Foundation so if we reach this goal by Friday 26th September we will shave our heads down to a #3. Below are our target amounts:

$5,000 – Hair cut to just under our chins

$10,000 – “pixi cut” to ear length

$15,000 – Shave it off !!!

Every dollar makes a difference and your donation will help the McGrath Foundation place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia, and to increase breast awareness in young Australian women. To date, they have placed 87 McGrath Breast Care Nurses across Australia, who together have helped support over 21,000 families experiencing breast cancer.

100% of all donations will be donated to the McGrath Foundation and you will automatically receive a tax-deductible via email.

As they say at the McGrath Foundation, together, we can make a difference!

WE DID IT!!!!!!!

In true Cara, Alanna & Mia style the shave happened surrounded by family, friends and bubbly at Emma Louise Hair & Beauty, a very fitting venue given the owner, Emma, is a breast cancer survivor herself.

Big congratulations to everyone that helped us reach our target, we are so proud to have raised this amount of money for such a wonderful organisation who help women in their darkest hour.

Much love

Cara, Alanna & Mia

McGrath Foundation

The McGrath Foundation raises money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. Our highly qualified nurses help individuals and their families experiencing breast cancer by providing physical, psychological and emotional support, for free.
From the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment, McGrath Breast Care Nurses are there to help. While over 110,000 families have been supported since 2005, more nurses are needed to meet the growing rate of breast cancer diagnosis in Australia.
With your help, no one misses out on care. Visit www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au to find out more.
